I’m a bit of a yoga nut. My passion for yoga bloomed in Costa Rica, where my good friend Anna of Pura Vida Yoga Vacations, started a class in a beautiful garden setting. I attended dutifully three times a week and the difference in my body and mind was extraordinary. I love the mindfulness of […]
Normally, when a taxi pulled up to our condo building we were either welcoming new friends or saying goodbye to them. This time was different. The taxi was for us and we were leaving Belize. A bittersweet moment as we looked forward to our next adventure, but still wanted to keep this one for a […]
One thing that makes me laugh is a question we get asked fairly often: “Are you independently wealthy?” People think that because we live a relaxed lifestyle in a location that is considered paradise, that it must cost a lot. Sometimes we reply “yes, we are rich” and then laugh out loud and tell them […]
We’re leaving Belize. We’d like to stay a little longer, but the timing is working out this way. As much as I’ve given San Pedro a hard time, we’ve enjoyed it a thousand fold times more. We love it here and knowing that we will be leaving in one, short little week we’re feeling a […]
I really haven’t written too much about what we actually do while living on Ambergris Caye and I thought I’d fill you in. So expect a series on our normal, everyday life in the next few weeks. I’m writing under the assumption that you want to actually read about what it’s like to live here […]
I thought I was going to be alone all week with the kids. Mr. King had to go back to Costa Rica to firm up some business and banking matters and I was going to be a single mom. I was planning on taking the full week off from work, an increasingly frequent behavior of […]
It’s 2012 and we are looking forward to another adventurous year, but we thought we would take a minute and look back at 2011. This helps us remember, but also lets us share with you another year of our life that has become our “norm”. We are starting to get used to this life of […]
Ambergris Caye is one of the largest, most visited islands in Belize. Most adults visit the island for the incredible diving and snorkeling that the Belize Barrier Reef offers, but what about activities for children, especially little kids? We’ve have lived here for 2 months with our 3 and 1 year old and have a […]
Delectable seafood fare or a death wish? We’re bold enough to try it and see. Caribbean Invasion What is a lionfish? To me it looks like a combination of a lobster and a firework explosion with a little candy cane striping for drama. It’s beautiful and ugly at the same time. Lionfish is an invasive […]
There is only one reason we chose Ambergris Caye as our current global home base: The Water. Our reason for moving here was so simple we didn’t have to think about it very long: we wanted to play on white sand and swim in crystal clear water with great marine life. That’s it.
Step off the main tourist strip to experience one of the cheapest, best little delights that we’ve discovered here in San Pedro, Belize. Tiny little makeshift stands are set up on the street. Behind stands a woman that looks like a sweet grandmother and she only sells one thing: chicken tacos.
A visit to Ambergris Caye is not complete without the world famous Chicken Drop at Wahoo’s Lounge. Last night we experienced this phenomenon that entertained adults and children alike. A combination of chickens, good-hearted gambling and lots of yelling.
