Delectable seafood fare or a death wish? We’re bold enough to try it and see. Caribbean Invasion What is a lionfish? To me it looks like a combination of a lobster and a firework explosion with a little candy cane striping for drama. It’s beautiful and ugly at the same time. Lionfish is an invasive […]
Thirty years ago I was an immigrant in a foreign country, the US. Two years ago I was an immigrant in Costa Rica and this year I am an immigrant in Belize. You’d think I’d have this ‘moving to a different country’ gig down by now, but the realities of moving abroad are the same […]
There is only one reason we chose Ambergris Caye as our current global home base: The Water. Our reason for moving here was so simple we didn’t have to think about it very long: we wanted to play on white sand and swim in crystal clear water with great marine life. That’s it.
Step off the main tourist strip to experience one of the cheapest, best little delights that we’ve discovered here in San Pedro, Belize. Tiny little makeshift stands are set up on the street. Behind stands a woman that looks like a sweet grandmother and she only sells one thing: chicken tacos.
A visit to Ambergris Caye is not complete without the world famous Chicken Drop at Wahoo’s Lounge. Last night we experienced this phenomenon that entertained adults and children alike. A combination of chickens, good-hearted gambling and lots of yelling.
It seems to me people have great intentions when it comes to less materialism and more saving, but once the holiday spirit is upon us, most tend to lose focus. Mountains of presents sit under a Christmas tree making for a pretty picture and ensuring a great holiday, right?
It is a well known fact that all of us have… too much stuff. In fact, we own so much stuff, there are multi-billion dollar industries created to organize and store all our stuff. We have so much stuff it won’t fit into our 3,000 sq ft houses and we have to store it off-site in […]
I don’t think it’s actually hit me yet that I live by one of the most beautiful oceans I have ever seen. I’m here – washing dishes, playing with my children and working – as if nothing has changed. I’m out near my pool right now beside the Caribbean Ocean writing this post. The warm […]
To fly from Costa Rica to Belize, we had two choices. The first was an economy fare that entailed a 23 hour journey. The second was executive class, which took 3 1/2 hours. The price for first class was actually less than the economy, so it made the decision a no-brainer. I booked all four […]
Costa Rica is not a country of quality. The things that you buy here will likely break within a few months. The construction, finishing touches and detail work is low quality at best. So, for our last 2 nights in Costa Rica we decided to treat ourselves to a nice hotel – beautiful furnishings, great […]
The following is our own opinion of the best things and services in Atenas, Costa Rica. After living in Atenas for a year and a half, we have experienced many things, some good and some bad. But it is all about the experience. Come with us while we search out the best things related to […]
It was a difficult afternoon. As we drove down the bumpy road that leads from Atenas to Escobal, I looked back to see my 2 kids in their car seats and my 2 dogs in the back. It would be my last car ride with all of them. Tears filled my eyes. I tried to […]
